Catholic Youth Ministry of New Kensington (CYMNK) 2019-2020
Youth Ministry will meet on every second Sunday and fourth Sunday of the month from 11:30 am-3:00 pm, with a few exceptions. Click here for the 2019-2020 CYMNK Calendar.
Our high school youth and middle school youth will all meet in the Upper Room of the Disciples’ Center (former convent) at Mount Saint Peter. We will have combined gathering, meal, service projects, and games at both meetings.
On second Sundays, we will divide into two groups for a portion of our meeting. During that time, our middle school youth (grades 6-8) will have faith formation and prepare for the Sacrament of Confirmation through study in the Decision Point text. Our high school youth (grades 9-12), having already received the Sacrament of Confirmation, will continue their formation by participating in Turning Point Bible Study.
During our meeting on the fourth Sunday of the month, we will put the concepts and ideas from the second Sunday into action. We will use our gifts and talents and share Christ’s love by helping to do small home repair projects, visiting nursing homes, hosting events for the community, and participating in activities sourced from the Youth Ministry Access curriculum.
In addition to our meetings, there are several opportunities available through the Diocese of Greensburg which will enrich our young parishioners’ experience of Catholic worship, fellowship, and mission. These include the Holy Fire, National Catholic Youth Conference (NCYC), the Diocesan Winter Retreat, Manus Christi Work Camp, and the Steubenville Retreat. Check out all of the upcoming Events here. I look forward to sharing this journey with you!
Get to the POINT
Our youth ministry theme this year is Get to the POINT. It was inspired by our text books, Decision Point and Turning Point. So, you might be wondering, what IS the point?
The point is that God has plans for your life. The point is that God wants you to know Him and count on Him. The point is that God knows you completely and loves you completely, NO MATTER WHAT. The point is that EVERYTHING in your life is better, everything “comes alive,” through Christ.
Not sure you feel it yet? That’s ok. Youth Ministry will provide opportunities to encounter Christ as we:
Pray - We will continue to learn new ways to talk to God and be aware of His presence in our lives
Offer- We will accept our mission to use and share the gifts and talents God has given us
Inform – we will grow in our faith through studying sacred scripture, the Creed, and the lives of saints
Nourish-we renew our baptismal promises and share in the Eucharist by participating fully and regularly in the Mass and in our parish community
Trust – we will grow in our relationship with Christ, believing that his love for us is stronger than ANYTHING
