Reflection

July 25, 2010

Today’s readings invite us to be persistent  in our prayer—in our desires.  Keep communications (with God) open; search our hearts for our deepest desires and bring them to God “wholeheartedly.”

Persistence keeps hope alive; hope keeps hearts open and available for God’s love and divine activity.  No one, but God, knows why some prayers are answered “as” we would like.  However, keeping hope alive through persistent prayer keeps the lines of communication open and often gifts us with humility.  Ultimately, we are brought to realize that God is God; God’s love labors to give us that which is best for our growth in holiness.  Humility removes the burden of needing to have all the answers.  Humility reminds us that we are God’s beloved children, and as children are dependent upon our God.

So, yes, search your hearts for your deepest desires and bring them to God ‘wholeheartedly.’  Be persistent in your asking and prayer, keeping your heart available for God’s word.  And, then be attentive.  You may not receive what you asked “as” you wanted.  But, remember, that God’s desires for us are far greater than our desires for ourselves ever could be.  So, keep asking/praying . . . and keep listening to God’s word in your heart and be attentive to God’s presence in your life.
