Holy Oils Are Carried onto the Altar During Entrance Procession
The holy oils were blessed at the Chrism Mass at Blessed Sacrament Cathedral on Holy Thursday morning by Bishop Brandt and are carried in the entrance procession as set in a place of honor in the sanctuary.

Catechumens are prepared for Baptism by the Oil of Catechumens.  Before they go to the font of life to be reborn, the candidates for Baptism are strengthened to renounce sin and evil.

By the use of the Oil of the Sick, those who are infirm receive a remedy for illness of body, mind and spirit, so that they might have the strength to bear suffering, resist evil, and obtain the forgiveness of sins.

Chrism is used to anoint and confirm the newly-baptized, and to anoint the hands of presbyters and the heads of bishops at their ordination.  It is used to anoint the altar table and the walls of a church building the Rite of Dedication.  The Sacred Chrism is a sign: by this holy anointing, Christians are plunged into the paschal mystery of Christ.  We die with Christ, are buried with him, and rise with him.  We are sharers in Christ's royal and prophetic priesthood.
